This is a RARE SEVEN (7) PIECE GROUPING of ORIGINAL SS VERFUGUNGSTRUPPE TRANSITION ITEMS including an SS SOLDBUCH belonging to SS-VT ROTTENFUHRER HERBERT RICHTER.
This is a seldom seen grouping of seven (7) original SS Verfugungstruppe (Emergency force) items consisting of:
- A completely filled out soldbuch
- Two (2) extremely rare sets of pre Waffen SS transition collar tabs
- A subdued SS eagle and skull set for wear on a garrison cap
The soldbuch in this grouping is of particular interest as it originally belonged to SS Rottenfuhrer and Verfugungstruppe member Herbert Richter who, according to the soldbuch, joined the Verfugungstruppe on Der Fuhrer's birthday (20 April) in 1941, only three (3) months before the SS-V Division officially became known as "DAS REICH". As noted above, the soldbuch is virtually filled out completely and contains numerous Waffen SS stamps, signatures and other entries that make it very interesting reading.
In summary of some of these, Rottenfuhrer Richter is reported to have been temporarily assigned to Lichterfelder barracks in Berlin for training, which was, fo course, the home station for the 1st Division SS, Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. He was subsequently assigned after training to duty with the Totenkopf Division (Death's Head) and, while serving in Russia in 1942, lost his leg due to battle wounds.
The soldbuch also contains numerous medical entries identifying his fitting for an artifical leg and assignment of desk duty in Nuremberg, where he subsequently shifted over to become a full time member of the SS FM unit there until the end of the war.
As remarkable as the soldbuch is, the two (2) sets of collar tabs are even more interesting as they are each one of a kind type of creations that serve to illustrate the severe organizational and logistical difficulties which faced the Waffen SS at the time of its creation and acted to slow its growth into a major military force.
